Ayurveda

Ayur + veda = Life + Knowledge                Origin – 5000 years old

Ayurveda is a simple practical science of life. It is an ancient, holistic, healing, mind-body system that originates from India.

It is a natural medical based science with the purpose being to achieve optimal health through healing and preventing illness and disease.

It looks at people on an individual basis and uncovers their constitution. Choices for diet and lifestyles are recommended from there.

West vs. East

West – treat the disease

East – seek the early symptoms and reverse or prevent disease

Western  normality – what is common in the majority of the population

Eastern normality – everyone is evaluated individually because of our unique constitution

There are two main aspects in Ayurveda: doshas and digestion.

Everything in Nature is made up of 5 elements, we are made up of 5 elements– air, ether, fire, water, earth

These 5 elements are divided in 3 categories called the doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

The doshas are biological energies that govern the human body and mind. They provide every living being with an individual blueprint for health and fulfillment. When present in normal quantities they maintain a healthy body and when out of balance they create disease and illness.

The Physical Constitutions:

Vata is composed of Space and Air – energy of movement. Cool, light, drying, changeable, energetic and creative.

Pitta of Fire and Water– energy of transformation, digestion, metabolism. Hot, tense, intense, brilliant, driven, organized, assertive.

Kapha of Earth and Water – heavy, dense, slow, stable, strong and enduring. It prolongs energy and focus.

Health exists when there is a balance between three fundamental bodily doshas.

The doshas are energies that constantly change in response to our actions, thoughts, emotions, the foods we eat, the seasons, and any other sensory inputs that feed our mind and body. When we live into the fulfillment of our individual natures, we naturally make lifestyle and dietary decisions that foster balance within our doshas. When we live against our intrinsic natures, we support unhealthy patterns that lead to physical and mental imbalances… this can lead to dis…ease.

If you are having negative physical or emotional symptoms, there may be an imbalance in your constitution. Ayurveda will help you balance your doshas and reduce or eliminate those negative symptom before a disease or illness occurs.
